Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?
I discovered polymer clay 5 years ago when my grandma saw a class for children to make a clay nativity. She wanted me to try to make one for her. I liked using the clay and began making other things and taking more classes.
Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?
My mom had given me a necklace that Sue Screws made out of clay. I had seen a lot of her clay pieces and I always liked them.
What is your specialty?
Small, cute animals. I make them freestanding, necklace pendants and I put them on top of little boxes. I also like to make nativity scenes and advent trees.
Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?
I love all of the colors, and I like doing a lot of detail, which is possible with the clay.
Have you published any polymer clay books or do you have any in the works?
I know it is very difficult to express, but have you won any awards for your polymer clay work?
I have been doing a craftshow for four years now, and was the first child to have a booth there. The first year I did the show they put my picture and a small article in a local newspaper.
What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?
I just hope to keep learning. I am having fun meeting polymer clay artists and learning different ways to work with clay.
Do you have any advice for the beginning polymer clay enthusiasts?
Just have fun with it.
Are you a member of any Polymer Clay group,or any other craft
I am a member of the Metropolitan Detroit Polymer Art Guild(MDPAG). I am also trying to start a polymer clay group for kids. We have about 10 members.
What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?
I used to use Sculpey, but I am now using PREMO! I learned that PREMO! is a lot stronger than Sculpey, so that is why I use it. I've tried Fimo Soft also, and I like that too.
Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your
I have two younger brothers, age 10 and 1. My dad is a sculptor (he uses ice!). Both my mom and dad like to play with the clay with me.
